MARY MEYER (FOUNDER)


A 1987 graduate of Pacific Lutheran University, Mary has a degree in Exercise Science and Biology. A competitive athlete since the age of 5 she is an All American National Collegiate Swimmer, and has competed in triathlons placing second for her age group and in the top five overall. Mary has more than 20 years experience as a personal fitness trainer and is a certified personal life success coach. She has also served as the strength and power training coach for the Seattle O'Dea boys' high school swim team (Multi year State Champions). She has turned her education passions and adventures into a career becoming an independent business owner of Mary Meyer Life Fitness: making an active lifestyle fun and easy for people of all fitness levels. Known in Seattle as the resource for outstanding swim and triathlon coaching, Mary has helped countless athletes of all levels prepare for a great triathlon experience or simply enjoy getting in shape and making fitness a big part of life. Mary brings her team of outstanding coaches to provide exceptional clinics, workouts, camps and lectures.


ED ARTIS (SEATTLE AND CHICAGO COACH)


Ed Artis has been associated with Mary Meyer Life Fitness since 1999. He began his competitive swimming at age 8, founded and coached the Queen Anne Swim Club and was the diving coach for Seattle University's 2002 NAIA Mens National Champion. From 1997 to current Ed is the assistant swim and head diving coach for O'Dea High School Swim Team. This team has placed top five in Washington State with a State Swimming Championship in 1998. Since 1990 until current Ed is also the founder and coach of the Queen Anne Masters Swim Club. Ed is a key swim coach for Mary Meyer Life Fitness pool, open water swim and triathlon clinics. ROCKY URSINO (SEATTLE COACH)


Rocky Ursino joined Mary Meyer's team in 2004. He is an experienced runner and elite triathlete in both short course and long course races. Since 2000, he has completed 5 marathons and has qualified for the Boston Marathon twice. In 2005 he completed both the Boston Marathon and Ironman Canada. He is currently ranked 4th in his age group and 14th overall for triathlons in the Northwest. Rocky is a regular coach for our Sunday evening swim clinics at Mercer Island and our open water swim clinics during the summer. He also helps with Mary's triathlon lecture series during the Spring for those wanting to gain more insight into the sport. Marathon or Half-marathon bound? JIM LITTLEFIELD (SEATTLE AND CHICAGO COACH)


Jim has always been a water boy since just after birth. Shower, hot tub, pool, lake, ocean, and even some remote watering holes, Jim's in the water. He has been a competitive swimmer since age 10. He competed throughout high school and college in Austin, TX. He has been competing in United States Masters Swimming (USMS) since 1990. He has competed in many local, national, and world championship since then. After growing up teaching swimming lessons to kids, he coached coed college swimming at Marquette University for 5 years. He has coached open water and pool clinics with Mary since 2005. With several world swimming adventures last year, Jim is never too far from the water.


KAREN BUTTRAM (SEATTLE COACH)


Karen attended MMLF venues in 2004 after signing up for the Danskin triathlon with a goal of "just finishing". That season of training, learning and gaining confidence led to 3rd and 4th place age group finishes at the Seafair and Danskin triathlons that year. Since then, Karen has competed in numerous sprint and olympic distance triathlons, 5K to half marathon runs and masters swim meets. A consistent "podium finisher" in age group including several first place awards, she was ranked 3rd in her age group for triathlons in the Northwest in 2006. She competed at the 2007 USA Triathlon Age Group National Championship, qualifying for the 2008 USAT Worlds race. Since 2005, Karen has worked with MMLF leading Open Water, Triathlon and Brick workouts, coaching Tri and Open Water Clinics and Camps. Karen's background includes a lifetime and lifestyle of fitness and recreational swimming, running, cycling, backpacking and team sports. She raises a daughter and works as an RN. A "masters" competitor, Karen continues to improve her own performances and hopes to encourage and inspire competitors to achieve and EXCEED their own goals!


LAURA HOUSTON (SEATTLE RUNNING COACH)


Laura Houston has been providing water safety from her kayak with Mary's open water swim and triathlon clinics since 2003. She has competed in numerous triathlons in the past and more recently has focused on running. She has run four marathons, and qualified to run Boston in 2006. She also recently became a certified ChiRunning and ChiWalking instructor www.chirunning.com. Since learning ChiRunning, her injury rate has decreased and her joy of running has increased significantly. She enjoys helping other learn the tools and tricks to achieve good form and how to run more efficiently and mindfully. She will be conducting ChiRunning and ChiWalking workshops in the near future in the Seattle area; meanwhile she is available for private lessons. MARY BRADBURY (CHICAGO COACH)


Mary Bradbury started coaching with Mary Meyer Life Fitness during 2003. A former All-American swimmer, Mary was an Illinois state champion in the 200 free and runner-up in the 100. She swam on a full scholarship for the University of Illinois. Mary competed in her first triathlon in 1996. Since then, she has competed in over two-dozen triathlons and fifteen running races. She has seven age-group victories to her name since 2003 and has finished in the top five overall ten times in that same time frame. Mary was named a USAT All-American in 2006, and competed for Team USA at the Triathlon World Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland, where she posted the 2nd fastest swim spilt in her age group. Mary Bradbury is a key coach at the MMLF Open Water Swim Clinics held in the Chicago area. SCOTT BRADBURY (CHICAGO COACH)


Scott Bradbury has been a Mary Meyer coach since 2004. Scott's triathlon career began in 2003 at the Blue Lake Triathlon in Fairview, OR and since then he has competed in over two-dozen events from sprint distance up to half-ironman. From training plan development, to gear and gadgets, to race day prep and transitions, Scott is well-versed in all aspects of the 3 triathlon disciplines. ERIK MOEN (PHYSICAL THERAPIST/CYCLING COACH)


Erik Moen and Mary Meyer met in college at Pacific Lutheran University. They have respected each others works for years and Mary feels very confident referring clients in need of physical therapy and/or cycling information to Erik. Erik has been an orthopedic and sports physical therapist for over 13 years. His current practice has a large population of bicycling athletes. These bicyclists are treated for bicycling related pain-syndromes and overuse injuries, and consulted for performance biomechanics in endurance and aerodynamic positioning on the bicycle. Erik is a frequent lecturer and author for bicycle biomechanics, injury and rehabilitation topics. Erik is an Elite-level coach through USA Cycling and his coaching experience includes bicycle racing (road, track, mountain, and cyclocross) and triathlon.
