WHAT KIND OF BIKE DO I NEED?Road Mountain Racing To mountain bike or not to mountain bike? Here's the deal, the sport of triathlon can be expensive - mtn bikes take more energy and are slower than a road bike, but if it's what you've got and you are fine with somebody who is "less cycled" than you cruising by on a road bike go for it. If you decide you want to be a gear head and you love the sport then go buy your road bike. If you are competitive and want to save some energy you'll want to look into a road or triathlon bike (for 90% of the population the road bike is great - no need to spend the $ on the tri bike). Most important - make certain which ever bike you go with - fits YOU. If you are barrowing a bike make sure it's from a friend or family member that is about your size. HINT: If you go to a reputable bike shop to get the bike fit (which we HIGHLY recommend) and they tell you it's not a good idea for you to use the bike...listen to them! Helmets are required for all cyclists and chinstraps must be snapped before the participant mounts the bike. This is at all times, even when you are bringing your bike to transition and removing it. Don't be disqualified before the event starts by not wearing your helmet. Handlebars and stem must be fashioned to prevent any danger. All handlebar ends must be solidly plugged to lessen the possibility of injury. |
WHAT IF I DON'T HAVE A BIKE?We recommend that you rent equipment from a reputable dealer and that you are properly fitted for the equipment you have rented. It is also in your best interest that you train with a piece of equipment before you use it in a Race. We suggest you do a "Google" search for area bike rental shops. |
DO I HAVE TO WEAR A HELMET?Helmets are required for all cyclists and chinstraps must be snapped before the participant mounts the bike. Handlebars and stem must be fashioned to prevent any danger. All handlebar ends must be solidly plugged to lessen the possibility of injury. |
CAN I WALK THE RUN?You can walk, crawl, run, sprint…whatever it takes to finish the race in the cut off total tri time of 2 hours and 30 minutes. At this time, you will be able to still be on the course, but it is up to you to make good decisions. Clearly - your end goal will help determine how you want to cross that finish line. If your goal is to complete the event do what you gotta do. If it's to finish top in your age group, get training now. Regardless of your goal remember to smile as you cross that finish line for your finishing photo! |
CAN I USE AN IPOD/WALKMAN DURING THE RACE?No. For safety reasons headsets, radios, headphones, personal audio devices, etc. are prohibited. Athletes-in-progress must be aware of their environment and be able to hear instructions from Race personnel at all times. |
