I'm always happy to talk with anyone who might be interested in 30+ or any of your classes for that matter. I had a chance to talk to a person who was seriously considering joining the 30+ Plan. She said she feels like doing it on her own is difficult and that having accountability to someone else would definitely help her. She wants this to be a lifetime change and not go in circles as so many of us have done for years of losing and gaining. I was up front with her that you have high expectations from people who join 30+ and that it's about changing our habits and excuses won't work in this class and you better show up and if you don't you'd better have a damn good reason.
I want to tell you how pleased I have been with joining 30+. I really feel like my body has changed on many different levels, but mainly just feeling stronger.
When I initially saw that your classes were in Magnolia I said forget about it, ain't no way I'm staying 2 hours after work or drive all the way from the north end just to go exercise. Hell at the time I couldn't even get my ass to the gym 5 minutes from my house, let alone drive for an hour to get to exercise. And look what's happened, I want to keep doing it indefinitely?!

Hi Mary!
I want to thank you, Mary, as your voice is still often with me as I continue finding new ways to be healthy. You gave me such a solid foundation to work from. I was very afraid, when I left 30+, that I would not be able to move forward. I have shown myself that activity can be a natural fit in my schedule, life and family. Mostly, I have shown myself that I am capable of doing this. It doesn't mean I don't stumble, as I do. It just means that when I stumble, I don't drown in a pool of self-loathing. I simply get up, brush myself off, and start over again. Thank you for the big jump start!!!!

Hey Lady!

I'm so glad you checked in! Thank you! I am doing great. I threw away my scale over the holidays, and that was liberating. The scale was driving me to distraction. That said, I have found that I am fitting into clothes that I haven't fit into in a couple of years, so body changes are going the right direction. I am using a lot of what I learned ... I hear your voice in my head A LOT! In particular I hear you challenging me to try something different. I review the worksheets that I did in class almost every week to check in with myself. I also hear you reminding me that slow and steady progress is good. it helps me to focus on the idea that this is a lifetime pursuit, not just a sprint towards a bikini for our trip to Maui. Overall I find that I really appreciate a workout that connects the mind/spirit/body. I go between 5 and 7 times per week. I found my waist! Now am in hot pursuit of a yoga butt. The environment you create is very, very good for me, and I want to stay connected.

I have been meaning to write to you and tell you a few of the unanticipated good results of this work that I have noticed (on top of feeling stronger and better and having more energy)- some are totally little things, but also totally noticeable:
My fingernails are really strong and healthy and don't crack/peel. My skin looks prettier when I get up in the morning. I am much more interested in my hubby (wink wink, nudge nudge). I am finding lots of reasons to be nicer to myself. My kids say things to me like "Mamma, you are really strong and fast"

Hi Mary,
I went to the doctor, following the treadmill test, he stated that my "exercise aptitude" was that of a 29 year old-he just took 15 years off my life! So, I can push myself beyond where I ever dreamed I could.
Mary, thank you so much for imparting your expertise and encouragement to train me over the past nine months. Thanks for pushing me when I needed it and encouraging me when I showed even the smallest signs of improvement. I have gained some valuable tools and have become a much stronger person in many ways. I know that the progress I have made has put me on the right track for success.

I have been doing a lot of thinking since last night and felt compelled to send you a little message.
thank you for forcing us to get to the bottom line. Just since last night I have been trying to bottom line my thoughts and I am finding it truly liberating. I didn't realize how much I BS myself. I think I am beginning to understand how my own stories (a.k.a. BS) do hold me back.
I had my second nutrition appointment with Heather today and she is so wonderful. I have been using a program called Calorie King to track my food and she helped me learn how to apply the numbers she is giving me to that program. It was really nice of her to be so adaptable to what I have been doing. She is SO positive and her information is SO helpful.

Hi Mary,

Just wanted to shoot you a quick note of thanks for the impact your program has made on my lifestyle so far. I can see and feel the change, and, so can other people!
I have not weighed myself since the last weigh-in with you, so have no idea where I am. It doesn't really matter, my clothes are fitting more loosely and for me, that is the true measure of weight loss. Thank you.

Hi Mary,

I have really enjoyed the 30+ program. My endurance and fitness levels, are at an all time high since I left high school. I am really excited about that! I have also made a lot of changes in my personal life including becoming vegan, which has made a huge positive impact on my overall well-being. I have also started taking the train to work, which is really reducing my stress levels compared to commuting by car all the time. Since I get to Tacoma early, I have been going to the gym in the mornings before work.
